Our light hatchet completes our requirements for cutting in the field. This small hatchet design was copied from an artifact found in Northwest Ohio, thought to be from around the era of the War of 1812. We like it’s light weight and compact size. It is perfect for camp chores, splitting the pelvis on a big game animal, or brushing in a blind. It is handy enough to fit in your hunting bag with little notice.
As with our Traditional Woodsman Skinner, Carlton Mateo welds/forges these right here in Michigan, each one individually. The quality of this hatchet is amazing. Currently we are using oak for the handles, but that is subject to change based on availability of different woods.
